"Across the I":
All about discussing how we need to reach outside ourselves to understand the stories of others. Also, it touches on the importance of taking an effort to go across what you believe to be uncomfortable and challenged. When you reach outside yourself, you become enlightened with new perspectives. Aisle: The aisle includes the people that walk through it as well as yourself. It is a passage between rows of seats- whether it is in a church, theater, airplane, classroom, etc. Walking through an aisle is social and is focused on bringing different types of people together. Goals: (1) Meet people where they are at (2) Understanding backgrounds/political socialization (3) Have a safe space where people can feel comfortable talking about their beliefs (4) Have fun & learn something new! |
Current Climate:
We live in a society that customizes their own social media pages and information to what they want to hear, not what is uncomfortable. These customized echo chambers are dangerous and hinder productive discussion. They also breed intolerance for those that think differently and ostracize people for their beliefs. Generational Z is less tolerant and I want to change that for our generation by talking to others who are my age & older. Simply by being exposed to different beliefs enriches your political aptitude. We need to be challenged in our beliefs. I truly believe that the partisanship & other conflict would be solved if people would just sit down and listen. Deep down, people crave community as well as the ability to have their views be heard. What better way to foster this sense of community than by sharing your political beliefs that make you who you are? Your experiences shape your beliefs & you cannot neglect your experiences. |
